Where Do You Draw The Bikini Line?

Are you dying to know about all of the latest advancements in va-jay-jay maintenance?  Well look no further, SpaWish has compiled a complete guide to all of the traditional and latest treatments and technology designed with your nether-regions in mind.

Bikini Wax: Pubic hair removal dates back to 4000 BC, and while cultures all around the world have implemented different methods of hair removal, epilation is a particularly popular practice that has evolved over the years.  The removal of the hair at the root comes in all shapes and sizes…

American Waxing: This describes the removal of hair at the “bikini line,” or the area exposed when wearing a bathing suit or bikini underwear.

French Waxing: Think “landing strip.”  The French wax leaves just a vertical patch of hair, eliminating hair from the peri-anal area and labia.  This wax is also sometimes called “Playboy wax” or “G-waxing.”

Brazilian Waxing: Once it seemed somewhat of a novelty, but the Brazilian bikini wax is simply French waxing without the landing strip, leaving you completely bare down there.  Sometimes referred to as “The Sphynx,” after the hairless breed of cat, the Brazilian wax has nothing to do with Brazil and was given the name simply because it sounded exotic.

Pubic Hair Dye: There has been a recent surge of products that are dedicated to decorating your bits, including dyes like Betty Beauty: Color For Your Hair Down There.  Designed to touch up greys, Betty’s products come in many hues, including some fun, non-natural colors like “Malibu Betty” (bright blue), “Fun Betty” (hot pink) and “Sexy Betty” (purple).

Vajazzling: Defined as “the act of applying glitter and jewels to a woman’s nether regions for aesthetic purposes.”  Often done with Swarovski crystals, vajazzling can take many different shapes and sizes.  Applied to the vulva, the crystals take the place of pubic hair to add a sparkly alternative to both a natural and bare look.  Done after a Brazilian wax, vajazzling is no different than temporarily affixing crystals to the face or arm…except that they’re a little more private.

Vajacials: This facial-like treatment for your lady-bits is performed a week after waxing and is designed to take care of any skin issues associated with waxing.  The treatment, which seems to have debuted at San Francisco’s Stript Wax Bar, usually lasts about 50-60 minutes.  The vajacial is generally a four-step process… First the area is cleansed with an antibacterial body wash and witch hazel.  Next an exfoliating gel with papaya extracts is applied prior to the extraction of ingrown hairs.  After your extraction, a calming mask with anti-acne and anti-freckle properties is applied; the treatment concludes with a lightening cream.

However, while waxing in whatever your preferred form makes sense for maintaining a comfortable summer look, it seems that these extreme new trends may be putting unnecessary emphasis on making your lady parts “beautiful” and could have the effect of making women around the world feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, and ashamed of situations that are, in fact, very normal and natural!  It also encourages a double standard.  While “man-scaping” is gaining popularity (it was even a theme featured on HBO’s Entourage), nobody seems to be insisting that men get facials or bejewel their family jewels!

What do you think?  Is it all in good fun or has this trend gone too far?  Where do we draw the bikini line?

Maybe in a few months there will be vaj-stentions… you know, so we can recover from the over waxing and dazzling! I thought the eu naturelle look was making a comeback, no? Either way, I think this preoccupation with pubic improvement is a little sick. Stick with the normal wax maintenance ladies, you men will thank you I’m sure.

I’ve always been a fan of making things “down there” a bit more user friendly but vajacials may have crossed the line. Super helpful info though on the wax names. Never knew what to ask for!

HI ,great article! i had laser done, and than at the clinic one day they offered IPL treatments, this was the way to go, no pain!. it took more treatments and so i eventually got a home IPL unit ( http://www.vissbeauty.com ) but its great , and i am totally stubble free. not even like strange black spots which can sometimes happen with laser. Anyways i love it.. and seriously the pain sucks with laser. and technology is great these days, so its worth taking advantage of the new technologies out there!
